Extra Credit Question –
Susie Spellwell is president of a grass roots group Simplr Speling 4 Ahl. Her group argues that it is high time that English spelling be simplified. On the other hand, Terra Traditionalist of the group Educated People Should Spell argues that English spelling captures roots and historical information of English words and should be preserved. Join the organization of either Susie or Terra. As a member of their organization, you must give them points for the debates that they will have all over the US. Using the resources above, or other reputable resources that you can find, provide either Susie or Terra with a point to strengthen their position.
I believe I would side more with Terra’s group because English is already known within 17% of the world’s population which is roughly 1.35 billion people out of 7.8 billion people. With that being said, 1.35 billion people would have to relearn the simplified version of English rather than keeping it and others continuing to learn basic English. Also, knowing English is a very good way to get jobs and travel the world or even so much as communicate effectively with other people internationally. I also believe that changing the basic English to simplified would cause many problems especially within the science department because most of it is English based as well as how important English is in the historical outlook.
